Last Chance to Participate in Contest!

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 18, 2012, 3:13 PM
Website l Blog l Livestream l Twitter l Shop

Last chance guys! If you're going to enter do it now. Winners are going to be announced the 19th of March along with the premiere of my two Webcomics.

I'm throwing a contest for my upcoming Webcomic which launches this March.

You all know that it's a modern retelling of a Fairy Tale (or for those who didn't know now you do).

HERE'S THE CONTEST:
Guess which Fairy Tale I decided to retell. You can find clues throughout the time I've uploaded stuff on the comic here on DA or just take a stab in the dark which tale it is. Remember to be careful I have a ton of Fairy Tale specific projects in my gallery since I'm the Fairy Tale Queen. Only one is the winning Fairy Tale. Here's the condition. You can only make ONE guess. Not two or three but ONE. All the winners who guess right will get sent a link to a secret page that will show five high resolution penciled pages of the comic. I will announce the winners when my comic launches this March. I'll also throw up a journal on da showcasing the winners. Good luck!

Below are all the Images I've uploaded on the comic:

(To those of you who are close friends of mine and have been told which Fairy Tale it is you are not allowed to participate in this contest. Please do not ruin it for the others.)

Questions on Agents for Representation

Journal Entry: Thu Jan 19, 2012, 1:01 PM
Website l Blog l Livestream l Twitter l Shop

I've been researching the different routes to take with doing freelance Illustration for publications. Does anyone have any experience or know anyone who can let me know if it's better to get an agent to represent you or go it solo and approach publication houses on your own. I know that some houses won't accept unsolicitations unless you're represented and I've heard that agents aren't needed at all. I'm still on the fence with what to do. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I've been furiously trying to get everything ready for the launch of two of my Webcomics this March. Here's a little bit of info on them.

Photobucket Modern retelling of a classic fairy tale with a completely different spin. Will consist of 3 books total at 150 pages each. This is going to be a long one folks!

Photobucket The comedic newspaper style strip based comic of the Grim Reaper living in a high rise apartment in New York City.

I haven't released the names of these Webcomics as of yet but you will start to see more promotional material as well as a trailer real soon (which the names will be announced). I will have a main new website for all my projects where you can read comics, participate in contests and the forum, and see tutorials from me involving comics and art. Thanks for the support from all of you on my comics. It's been about a year of working on them and now they're finally ready to launch!

Dam Water Problems

If you remember a while back I posted a Journal about my home (Mother's House) being flooded by the Missouri River. As of now she's finally moving back in and dealing with redoing a bunch of things in the house due to mold. My sister has written a blog following the whole progress of the flood (moving, flooding, damages, etc). Check out the pictures she posted and read her wonderful writings in the postings. She's got a gift for comedic writing and amazingly the blog has generated around 3,000 followers already! Please go check out her blog called "Dam Water Problems." You too can follow the crazy journey! Proud sister rant over...

Although our neighbor may lack the ability to properly spell, I think most of us would find humor in this man-made sign urging curious passerby's to stay out. Though my family would have to agree that the slow 'ten-mile per hour' drivers are causing more harm than they are good it's still great fun to watch our fellow neighbors wave at those passerby's…maybe the next time they'll remember to use the other four fingers when doing so!

youtu.be/wV6I_tVOxBA CLICK ON LINK TO WATCH THE VIDEOS!!!

I've created a youtube account to show instructional art videos of the way I draw and tricks I've learned. Up now is "How to draw Long Hair" for your animated characters. Please go watch it and let me know what you think.

I will be adding additional drawing tutorials since I finally was able to set up the camera to hold a steady shot over my shoulder (no more shakies!) I also am doing a series called "Sketching over Coffee" where it features quick sketches (usually morning before work) I do.

I need suggestions! What drawing videos would you like to see me do? You've seen my gallery so please keep it within my genre skillset. Example would be no robots as you can plainly see I don't draw them. Please comment below. Thanks!

Artist Tips From Yours Truly

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 19, 2011, 10:56 AM
Website l Blog l Livestream l Twitter l Shop

I've decided to compile all my artist tips that I tweet on my twitter account. These are tips that I have learned as I go about doing art. If you want to see more future art tips from me or odd posts about yellow shoes follow my twitter account here twitter.com/#!/JessaSininger I hope these are of help.

Artist Tips of the Day:

Never try to be clean with your drawings. It forces your brain into a state of fear to not make mistakes. Dirty up the page and smudge it to your hearts content! You can always clean it up when your done.

When using photo pose reference shrink it down to thumbnail size to study. It will train your creativity to grow and make it so your not dependent on copying.

When sketching try using the side of lead to draw with. It will push gestures more & will exercise the ability to control a drawing.

The secret to drawing realistic hair is to treat it exactly like a piece of cloth. That includes draping the hair.

Lighting within a painting is one of the most crucial things in a piece...if it lacks a lighting scheme it lacks life.

When painting a composition don't go overboard.Too many textures/patterns can clutter a piece. Keep it simple so it can read.

When watching movies pay attention to the colors in the scenes as a whole. This will help with coming up with color keys for your paintings.

When drawing long hair think of it like a ribbon wrapping around for construction then start detailing. Don't create uniform lines they should be simple and done with a purpose to show the foundation of the hair. Don't create lines for the sake of lines!

Don't be afraid to scribble on the paper. Loose gestures offer appealing designs.

Take some time to think about the overall colors you are using in your paintings. Do they fit...are they appealing...

When painting eyes bleed a little color of the iris into the pupil. It will make the eyes more soulful.

When painting make sure you are keeping an eye on the thumbnail of it. If it pops as a small image it will pop as a whole!

I thought I'd show you a picture of my home as it looks right now. Water is surrounding the house. The basement has 4 inches of water in it. We're hoping it won't get any worse. They may still let more water out of the damn still. Either way the water won't go down until August. So in other words I have a moat around my house now.

Trailer for Pixar's THE BRAVE

Website l Blog l Livestream l Twitter l Shop

**Faints**

Finally! The trailer to Pixar's The Brave has been released. This movie might change my whole life. Just incredibly gorgeous. The design is so unique and stylized but the rendering is done realistically. Meanwhile the color pallet is somewhat subdued with vibrant colors peaking out here and there. This is definitely an art movie! I've been keeping an eye on this project since it was called "The Bear and the Bow". This is everything I love in animated movies. It has that fairy tale look to it. The female seems such a nice strong character. Move over damsels in distress Carrot Top is going to take you on! Now I just have to BRAVE the wait...

Flooding in the Midwest

Journal Entry: Tue May 31, 2011, 1:44 PM
Website l Blog l Livestream l Twitter l Shop

Flooding is happening in my hometown of Iowa in the Midwest. My family is being evacuated and taken to higher ground. They have 10 days to evacuate and get their stuff out. My home is right on the Missouri River so this is not looking good. Once they let the dam out more water will fill and they are predicting it to reach pretty far inland. My sister and some other family are heading back to Iowa to help with the flooding. I can't make it back with them which sucks. All I can do now is wait and see how far the water gets to my home. The water is already high on the bank and still rising. Please pray that it doesn't get as bad as they are predicting (which is not good). I've lived 18 years in Iowa and have never dealt with anything like that before. I just hope everyone will be okay and not a lot of damage happens. Thanks.

I split my website into 2 sections now. One for my 2D Illustration Portfolio and the other for my 3D Portfolio. I'm finally happy to be done with the 2D section. It took a while to design and figure out how I wanted it to look like. As for my 3D Portfolio it's still the same but with more cleaned up simple content. Feel free to take a look and tell me what you think. Careful the paint may still be wet.

Thank you Mr. Bowie!

Prints are now available and a new avatar! Now that I'm settled in my new place I'm able to get priorities straight! First off I changed my avatar. It's about damn time, right! I also added some of my selective deviations available as prints you can purchase. So take a look in the print shop! Everything else is going well enough. All the big things I can't announce until I get the green light. I can say that I'll be going more public with my next side mini comic called GOBLINNAPPED. I'm super excited about that one. All the things I've said were going on before still are. Still working on the Fairy Tale Illustrations, Main Comic, and Art Book. I'm going to be cleaning shop on my deviations soon so if there's anything you want to grab do it now folks. Out with the crappy old and on with the new! Hope every one's doing well out there! Wish I had more to say.

Now off to get the mail in something other than my pjs...

I'm sorry I haven't posted new art in a while. I'm in the process of moving to a new apartment (much to deal with on that front). The day job is going great. The people I work with are really fun. I'm in discussions about the opportunities for my comic with the publisher now. More on that front hopefully soon. On the side I've been working on my mock up art book which goes to the seller to consider this summer as well as finishing another script for a small side comic. More art will get posted when I settle into my new place and get time to actually draw. I'm getting a brand new art desk I've had my eye on for a while now and can't wait to try it out. I hope everyone's doing great out there! Thanks for all your support!
